Dr. RodNEY Tomczak, MD., Ed.D

The title of Dr. Tomczak’s dissertation for his education doctorate is, “The effects of Problem-based Learning on the National Board Scores, Clinical Evaluations and Residency Selection of Medical Students” and compared students exposed to a traditional passive lecture curriculum with students utilizing an active learning problem-based curriculum.
Dr. Tomczak has also published numerous scientific articles in refereed journals which have contributed to new knowledge in medicine. Because of his contributions to the printed media, he has also served as editor for a major journal.
Besides serving and chairing curriculum committees, Dr. Tomczak has also served as chair of the Surgical Care Review Committee, Human Use Committee, Animal Care Committee, and Rank and Promotion Committee at Des Moines University and was a member of the Credentials Committee at Des Moines General Hospital. At the Ohio State University he served on the Trauma Committee, Independent Study Committee and Graduate Education Committee.
Dr. Tomczak has also served on numerous federally funded education grants benefiting medical students and their universities. He also was selected the first president of the Catholic Medical Association in Columbus, Ohio, but he feels his greatest personal award was being selected Teacher of the Year by the 1999 graduating class of the Ohio State University College of Medicine.
